The Board of Directors of the Beebe Medical Foundation is pleased
to announce the establishment of the Benjamin F. and Helen M. Shaw
Legacy Society named for two early benefactors of Beebe Medical
Center.
Background
Mr. and Mrs. Shaw provided the resources for building and
equipping a 35-bed “state of the art” modern medical facility and in
Mr. Shaw’s words he considered it “…a gift to the people of Lewes
and Sussex County”.
The Shaw Building, which resulted from the generosity of the Shaw’s,
still carries a bronze tablet erected at its main entrance bearing
the inscription: “ This hospital has been erected and equipped by
Benjamin F. and Helen M. Shaw for the relief of suffering humanity
in October 1921.”
In recognition of the Shaw’s generous and unselfish gift to help
support Richard and James Beebe’s dream of bringing modern medical
care to Sussex County, a planned philanthropic giving society will
be established. Their vision and generosity so many years ago built
the foundation, which allows the present day Beebe Medical Center to
offer the highest quality healthcare to this region. It is
appropriate that a philanthropic planned giving society should be
established bearing the Shaw names as an inspiration to current and
future donors to Beebe Medical Center.
Society’s Purpose
The Shaw Legacy Society is established to recognize all of those
individuals who have or intend to provide support for Beebe Medical
Center in their estate plans through wills, trusts, life income
gifts, IRAs, retirement plans, life insurance designations,
endowments, and other vehicles. Membership involves no dues or
obligations of any kind.
Society’s Benefits and Privileges of Membership
Shaw Legacy membership is restricted to a finite group of
individuals who believe in Beebe Medical Center and have translated
that belief in a way to provide healthcare for future generations
through their planned philanthropy.
From time to time Beebe Medical Center and Beebe Medical Foundation
will hold special events for Shaw Legacy Society members such as an
annual reception and educational seminars. Members will also receive
advance invitations to Medical Center events that are traditionally
“sold out”. Periodic newsletters keeping the Members current with
the Medical Center’s advances in programs and services, Foundation’s
fundraising opportunities, planned giving and tax information will
be provided.
Members of the Shaw Legacy Society, with their permission, will be
publicly recognized on various Donor Walls, the Honor Roll of Donors
and in other publications as may be appropriate.
A distinctive Shaw Society Lapel Pin will be provided to each Member
as both recognition of their interest and generosity and also a
source of pride as other Members are encountered.
